L is for … Lonely

Published by dodo under Child Care, Parenting

Shaper was feeling lonely. His best friend had moved away and he felt like he didn‘t fit in at school. All the other children still had their best friends and Shaper felt left out. He wished his best friend hadn’t moved away.

The other children were friendly enough, but he didn‘t feel special with them. It felt worse when the teacher told them to choose a partner because Shaper was always the odd-one-out. He didn‘t have a partner and then had to join in with two other children. He felt they didn‘t really want him to join in. They would’ve preferred Shaper to join another group. Continue Reading »

M is for… Mortified (you feel very, very embarrassed)

Shaper and Shell and the Twin were playing soccer outside.

“Be careful where you kick that ball,” said Papi, while shaking his finger at the children. “I don’t want any broken windows when I come home. If anything gets broken, you’ll have to pay for it yourselves!” Papi said sternly while shaking his finger even harder.

“Not a problem, Papi,” shouted Shaper. “We’ll be careful, and anyway, we’re kicking the ball away from the house.” The children carried on kicking the ball to each other and Papi rode off down the road on his bicycle.

A little while later, the children decided to see how high they could kick the ball, trying to kick it over the tree in the yard. Continue Reading »

Z is for… Zero-Tolerance (don’t do things you know are wrong)

Shaper had to study for an exam. As the oldest Freaky, he had the most homework to do. While he was busy studying, the other Freakies were playing outside and having lots of fun. It wasn’t fair! It was a lovely sunny day and Shaper had to sit indoors and study for his exam.

Shaper was sitting at the table with his school books in front of him, but he wasn’t learning. He was thinking about what he’d heard at school. One of the children sitting behind Shaper said he was going to write the answers on his arm and then roll his sleeve down to cover the answers. Then, during the exams, he was going to roll his sleeve up, slowly, and read the answers. That way he wouldn‘t have to study for the exam, but he would still pass! Continue Reading »

Shaper was waiting at thebus stop. It was getting late. Shaper wasn’t alone — there were some other children from his school also waiting for the bus. His blockey match had started so late and now it was almost dark.

“Where is the bus?” thought Shaper. “It should have arrived already.”

Shaper felt worried. He didn’t know what to do. He knew his parents would also feel worried if he didn’t arrive homesoon, and he didn’t want to get into trouble with them. Continue Reading »

X is for… Xenophobic (not liking people who are different from you)

Published by dodo under Family, Kid, Parenting

When Shell first met Beesly, she didn‘t like her very much — even though now they are best friends!

Beesly came from the northern part of Planet Star-Burst, a place called the Hive. Most of the inhabitants of the Hive looked like bees andwere different from the Freaky family, who lived down south. Not only did they look different, but they sounded different too because they spoke a different language, and they tended to hum a lot, like bees do, and they liked to eat honey. Continue Reading »

Gogs and Bumper were looking after Shell, Shaper,Splotch and Mub. The Freaky children were watching a TV programme while Gogs was in the kitchen cooking supper. Bumper was helping Gogs by peeling the potatoes for the stew. Suddenly they both heard a loud yell.

“Stop that, Shaper!” shouted Shell. “I hate it when you keep nudging me.”

“What am I doing?” shouted Shaper. “You’re the one who keeps the remote and changes the channels all the time,” shouted Shaper. “It’s not fair!” Continue Reading »
